Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is a disease of the eye that usually develops slowly and painlessly.  Patients are often completely unaware that they have it.  If left untreated, the vision loss from glaucoma is often permanent.  Some of the conditions that can put you at a higher risk of developing glaucoma include:

  • Being over 40 years old

  • Having a family member with glaucoma

  • African, Asian or Hispanic descent

  • A strong need for glasses (farsighted or nearsighted)

  • High blood pressure

  • Diabetes

  • Migraines

  • Using steroids for more than 2 weeks

  • Poor blood circulation

  • History of eye trauma

  • High eye pressure

  • Thin corneas

  • Thinning optic nerves

** Having more than one of the conditions on the list above can further increase your risk.

Glaucoma can only be detected with an eye exam.  If you think you are at risk or have already been diagnosed with glaucoma and would like to discuss treatment options and establish care to monitor for progression call Cardinal Vision LLC at (803) 999-EYES or schedule an appointment by clicking on the link below.
